Welcome
Welcome to the new PAC programme website !
PAC (Phonologie de l’Anglais Contemporain - Phonology of Contempary English) is an international research programme based in four French universities (Université Toulouse Jean Jaurès, Université de Paris, Université Paris Nanterre, Université Aix-Marseille) which has several international partnerships including Northwestern Polytechnical University in Xi’an Shaanxi, China and University of Western Ontario, Canada.
The PAC programme has phonetic and phonological roots as its original purpose is to build phonological corpora for the study of the varieties of English spoken worldwide. It brings together students, teachers and researchers with many different fields of expertise in linguistics, which is why it has developed into 5 thematic research groups with dedicated research interests : PAC-LVTI, IPCE-IPAC, PAC-ToE, PAC-Prosody & PAC-Syntax.
The PAC corpora (in a few figures) amount to roughly 130 hours with 259 speakers recorded across 28 survey locations in 9 countries by 15 fieldworkers, including 6 who have defended their PhDs and 6 who are currently preparing their PhDs.
